Gosforth has never had a Labour councillor. Let's make history together.
The issues that matter most to our community
Gosforth High Street is the heart of our community. I'll champion our independent shops, cafes, and businesses — fighting for a High Street that's vibrant, accessible, and built around what residents actually want.
Better bus services, safer streets for walking and cycling, and traffic management shaped by genuine consultation — not top-down decisions. Gosforth residents deserve a say in how our streets are designed.
From Gosforth Central Park to our tree-lined streets, I'll defend the green spaces that make our ward special — resisting overdevelopment and investing in play areas, community gardens, and cleaner air for families.
Rising prices are pushing young families and key workers out of Gosforth. I'll push for genuinely affordable housing in new developments and stand against schemes that don't serve our community's needs.
As a school governor for Gosforth Academy and Callerton School — and former Chair of the governing boards of Farne and Cheviot Schools — I know our schools inside out. I'll fight to protect funding and ensure every child in Gosforth gets the start they deserve.
As a trustee of HealthWORKS Newcastle for six years, I've worked to help our community live happier, healthier, longer lives. I'll fight for better GP access, mental health support, and community services that reach every family in Gosforth.
I'm Jonathan Sabarre — a father, a football coach, a school governor, and someone who believes Gosforth deserves a councillor who will actually be heard where decisions are made.
Professionally, I'm a Principal Consultant for QS across the UK and Europe — supporting over 2,000 universities, 12,000 employers, and 75,000 students worldwide to shape the future of education. I'm a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, with over 20 years of experience bringing people together, solving problems, and delivering results across the public, private, and higher education sectors.
I'm currently in the final year of my PhD in Health Informatics, researching how technology can support the earlier detection of dementia — work driven by a deeply personal belief that every family deserves more time with the people they love.
Closer to home, I've served as Chair of the joint governing boards of Farne and Cheviot Schools for four years, and I'm currently a school governor for Gosforth Academy and Callerton School. For six years I've been a trustee of HealthWORKS Newcastle, helping our community live happier, healthier, longer lives. I also serve as a Parish Councillor in Woolsington. And perhaps the role that brings me the most reward — I've proudly coached my daughter's U10 football team for four years.
"Gosforth has never had a Labour councillor. That means our ward has never had a voice at the heart of Newcastle's Labour-led council. I want to change that — and I'm asking you to be part of this historic moment."
For too long, Gosforth's representatives have lacked the connections to deliver real change at a council level. I'm standing for Labour because I believe residents deserve a councillor who can get things done — someone who will invest in our High Street, protect our green spaces, champion our schools, and ensure every voice in Gosforth is finally heard where it matters most.
